It was a BBQ get together for my husband's Toastmasters group. I was having a great conversation with another TM spouse, (Doug) and he asked me if I had heard of the Camino? Well, at that point I did not think so, though thinking about it later, I had heard a talk by a couple who did the pilgrimage and were speaking to my running group. It just took me a bit to connect the dots. Well, at the BBQ, Doug suggested that I watch 'The Way' with Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez. So I did, then I read a book, then another, then searched the web, and by then I was hooked!
Then my daughter Rachel decided we should do it together - hurray, I had a partner! And a bit later I was talking with a running friend (Kathy) who has had this on her bucket list for a long time, so we actually set a date! April 2018 seemed like a long time away (this was summer 2016), but close enough to be exciting. Well, I guess I kept talking and another running friend (Charmaine) decided to join us. As she has some hiking experience I was happy to include her. So we became a four-some. And plans were made, backpacks were purchased, and walking began!
We joined the local chapter of the Canadian Company of Pilgrims, attended some meetings, learned from other's experiences - everyone is so kind and open to share! And since I keep talking about it, we seem to be expanding our numbers as well.
Now we have purchased airplane tickets and for sure it is really happening! My brother-in-law suggested I do a blog so that he can follow my adventure. So here I am, blogging. I will be doing this for myself mostly, but if anyone wants to follow along, that is great as well. We will be starting our walk on April 14, 2018 (at least that is the plan). I am setting up my blog now, but won't be doing much until later when I start to get ready.
