May 4 - Day 21

Day 21 - Ledigos to Sahagún - 16 km

Had a great sleep last night. Such a nice albergue. And they had a good breakfast today as well.

No rush to start since we were only planning 16 km today. A bit cold to start but sunny and with the wind at our backs. A nice day to go for a walk.

Today there were little towns about every 3-4 km, and the terrain was a bit less flat and straight. Very enjoyable.

At one town they had what looked like hobbit homes, set into the hillside. They were actually bodegas, had been used for wine storage. Now it looks like there is a albergue there! That would be cool to stay on a hobbit hole.

While walking today we saw a pilgrim going the wrong way even though the path was well marked. Somehow he ended up on the other side of the highway behind a fence. Crazy guy.

After a coffee stop we continued on to our destination today, Sahagún. This is the “official” half way point of the Camino. It is kind of funny how many different distances you see on signs and in books. I am not sure which to believe, I just know we have walked a long way.

Anyway, today we walked by statues that said we passed half way, then visited a monastery that has been renovated to be part church, museum and mostly art gallery. There we received a certificate that verifies that we have completed half the Camino. Pretty cool. I am not sure how well it will travel so I took a picture.

We got a private Hostal room for two today. Nice. The shower stall is a small tub, so we could soak our feet. Maybe later.

After showers, laundry, and a bit of a nap, we walked around the town. A bit bigger but still not a whole lot to see. We found a good pilgrim dinner, then walked back to our room. Tomorrow we have a new plan, I will tell you later.
